Mayor Charles “Chase” Chambliss.

Mayor Chambliss Bio

Mayor Chambliss is originally from California and has been a resident of Brevard County since 1995.

Mayor Chambliss holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with dual majors in Government and Ethnic Studies. He also holds an Undergraduate Certificate of Completion in Aviation Safety.

Mayor Chambliss has served over 20 years of military service in the United States Navy and Marines Corps. While in the United States Navy, he rose to the rank of Petty Officer Second Class and was an Air Traffic Controller and Control Tower Team Supervisor prior to his being accepted by the United States Marine Corps for commissioning and flight training.

As an Officer of Marines and Marine Aviator, Mayor Chambliss held every squadron division leadership billet (e.g., Administration, Intelligence, Operations, Logistics, Aircraft Maintenance, Director-of-Safety & Standardization), except Executive Officer and Commanding Officer. In addition to squadron achievements, Mayor Chambliss served in non-squadron unit assignments with:

  • 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, I st Marine Division, as a Battalion Air Liaison Officer
  • Marine Air Group 39, Ist Marine Aircraft Wing, as Assistant Aircraft Group Logistics Officer
  • Landing Force Training Command, Pacific, as Instructor and Assistant Director, Tactical Air Control Party School, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado

Mayor Chambliss is a combat veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, earning two Air Medals (with Combat 'V' attachment) for direct combat engagement under fire with enemy forces, while conducting Aerial Reconnaissance, Forward Air Control and Supporting Arms Coordination (Airborne) missions.

Since retirement from the military in 1992, Mayor Chambliss has had the distinction of working as a personal services contractor, providing technical expertise and knowledge-based skills to such agencies and companies as:

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E)

US Dept. of State, Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs

Continental & American Airlines and Flight Safety International

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (Melbourne Division Security Dept.)

Mayor Chambliss is a strong advocate of Florida's 1968 Constitutional "Home Rule" provision, providing for municipalities to conduct and perform municipal government functions and services, and exercise power for municipal purposes except as otherwise provided by law.

Prior to becoming Mayor, Mayor Chambliss served for 4-years as an advisor on the Palm Shores Planning and Zoning Board and 8-years on the Town Council as a Councilman.

Mayor Chambliss is married to Cocoa Beach native, Fara Laubenheimer. They have a son, Chase, that attended Satellite Beach High School and the University of Central Florida.

Powers & Duties

The Mayor shall:
  • Appoint, and when deemed necessary for the good of the Town, suspend or remove Town employees or appointive administrative officers provided for by this charter, except as otherwise provided by law, this charter, or personnel rules adopted pursuant to this charter. The Mayor may authorize any administrative officer who is subject to the Mayor's direction and supervision to exercise these powers with respect to subordinates in that officer's department, office, or agency.
  • Direct and supervise the administration of the Town Clerk, all departments, offices, and agencies of the Town, except as otherwise provided by this charter or by law.
  • Ensure that all laws, provisions of this charter and acts of the Council, subject to enforcement by the Mayor or by officers subject to the Mayor’s direction and supervision, are faithfully executed.
  • Prepare and submit the annual budget, budget message, and capital program to the Council in a form provided by ordinance.
  • Submit to the Council and make available to the public a complete report on the finances and administrative activities of the Town as of the end of each fiscal year.
  • Make such other reports as the Council may require concerning the operations of Town departments, offices, and agencies.
  • Make recommendations to the Town Council concerning the general operations of the Town.
  • Keep the Council fully advised as to the financial condition and future needs of the Town and make such recommendations to the Council concerning the affairs of the Town as deemed desirable.
  • Execute contracts on behalf of the Town pursuant to the provisions of appropriation ordinances or resolutions.
  • Perform such other duties as are specified in this charter or may be required by the Council .
